Rachel Black combines thought-provoking, evocative songwriting with a voice that mixes her classical upbringing with pop, rock, and the blues. Raised in Rockville, Maryland, a suburb of Washington D.C., Rachel Black began performing at the age of six, and started writing at fourteen. Rachel trained professionally at Boston’s Berklee College of Music, where she attended on a talent scholarship and was awarded the Performance Division Chair Award for her song, “Sweet New Orleans.†An intuitive songwriter, Rachel Black created a following in clubs and bars in Boston and New York, including the legendary Bitter End. In May 2011, Grammy-nominated recording artist BT released Rachel Black's cover of his song "Always" on the Limited Edition Box Set of These Re-Imagined Machines (Nettwerk/Black Hole). Rachel Black currently performs her piano-based original music with The Ninth Street Band and appears as a featured vocalist on electronica and dance recordings.
